Introduction of Molybdenum Disilicide Rods and Molybdenum Disilicide Electric Heating Elements
2024-11-12

Molybdenum disilicide electric heating elements are resistive heating elements  based on molybdenum disilicide. When used at high temperatures in an oxidizing

atmosphere, the surface vitrifies to form a bright and dense quartz glass film, which can protect the molybdenum disilicide rod from further oxidation. Therefore,

molybdenum disilicide rod elements have unique high - temperature oxidation resistance. In an oxidizing atmosphere, the maximum usable temperature of the

elements is 1800°C. According to user needs, they can be made into shapes such as rod - shaped, U - shaped, W - shaped, and U - shaped right - angled.

Normal temperature of molybdenum disilicide rods is 1300°C - 1700°C. They are widely used in fields such as metallurgy, glass, ceramics, refractories, crystals,

electronic components, and kiln manufacturing. They are essential and ideal heating elements for high - temperature sintering of products.

In a high - temperature oxidizing atmosphere, a passive protective layer is formed on the surface of the molybdenum disilicide rod to prevent further oxidation.

When the element temperature is above 1700°C, the quartz protective layer melts. If the element is continuously used in an oxidizing atmosphere, the quartz

protective layer will regenerate. Molybdenum disilicide rods should not be used for a long time in the temperature range of 400 - 700°C. Otherwise,

The elements will powder due to strong oxidation at low temperatures.

Electrical Properties of Molybdenum Disilicide Rods

The resistivity of molybdenum disilicide rod elements increases rapidly with the increase in temperature. Under normal circumstances, the resistance

of the elements generally does not change with the length of use time. Therefore, new and old elements can be used in combination.

Installation of Molybdenum Disilicide Rod Elements

Molybdenum disilicide rod elements are quite brittle at room temperature and plastic at high temperatures. Therefore, U - shaped rods are

preferably installed vertically. If horizontal installation is required, high - temperature refractory materials should be selected for support,

and the molybdenum disilicide rods should be placed horizontally. The conical part of the element must extend into the furnace chamber.

The clamps of the molybdenum disilicide rods should not be tightened too tightly at once. After the element is heated to a high temperature,

tighten it again so that the element is not easy to break. The heat - preservation performance of the furnace top should be good, and generally,

the furnace top temperature should not exceed 300°C. The contact voltage between the clamp wire and the element should be lower than 0.1V.

To avoid radiant heat transfer to the clamp, the distance between the lower end of the clamp and the top of the plug brick should not be less than 50mm.

The φ6 element should not be used at 170A for a long time, and the φ9 element should not be used at 300A for a long time.
